Weekly Menu 4-9 April

I can’t believe it’s April already. Where did March go? For someone who’s been dreading the last couple of weeks, they have really gone quickly. Maybe it’s a sign of my age!
I’m not quite back 100% but I’m working on it.  I did make a menu for this week and a grocery list. I had to send Nick to the commissary to pick up the stuff though. He’s doing an awesome job, but I must admit that I’m ready to be back in charge of the kitchen and meals. I think it’s a control issue. Maybe?
This week’s menu has a few old favorites but it’s still very easy. I’m not quite up to standing for a long time in the kitchen yet.
Sunday: Hoagie Bake (Alex LOVES this dish, he takes leftovers to school for lunch)
Monday: Slow Cooker San Francisco Pork Chops (these are in the crockpot now and it smells fabulous)
Tuesday: Sloppy Joes, fries and broccoli
Wednesday: Slow Cooker Chicken Tacos
Thursday: Grandma’s Beef Casserole
Friday: leftovers or we go out (I’m ready for an evening out)
Saturday:  unsure..hopefully I’ll get it together before then!
The weather is nasty today. We awakened to an amazing sunrise. The colors were beautiful. I tried to capture it, but just couldn’t grab how beautiful is was.  Now it’s cloudy and yucky. We’re supposed to get rain/thunder storms this morning. I am thinking it’s a good day to be stuck at home.

I’m counting down to Wednesday now. I have an 8:30 doctor’s appointment that should result in the removal of my stitches. I know I won’t be ready to run any races, but I’m hoping I can start to really walk again without the boot!

Surgery and Recovery Update

I haven’t written much about my actual surgery. It’s not that interesting, really.  I went to the Newport Hospital, where everyone was super professional and so nice.  I was there for less than 5 hours and it went very well.  I left with a big fat bandage on my right foot, a lovely blue Velcro boot to wear and my crutches.  As I’ve posted before, Nick has been wonderful and has taken care of me so well.
I realized one morning when I was home alone that I could crutch around and make my own sandwich, get my own drink etc, if I just had a way of moving it.  So, I found the plastic grocery bags and threw everything in there and carried it by the handle back to my nest on the couch or chair. Nick had a brilliant idea and tied the bag to one of my crutches and calls it a saddle bag. Too funny!

Thursday, I went for my one week follow up doctor’s appointment.  It was SO nice to have the bandage removed and let the ol’ foot breathe a bit.  The doctor said it’s healing very well and I could wear the second boot he gave me that has a very thick wedge on the heel end for walking. I tried it in his office, felt sharp pains in the foot and wimped out. I brought it home to play with later.

This morning, Nick suggested I try the wedge boot again. I did and have been hobbling around a little without the crutches. It’s SO liberating!!  It looks ridiculous and is a good three inches higher than my other bare foot but it’s so much nicer than using the crutches. I even went into the kitchen and swept my floor. That dirty floor was driving me nuts!
So, in conclusion, I’m healing quite well, feeling good about being in my second week of recovery and thankful that I’m laid up when the weather’s been so yucky. I’m afraid if we were having nice spring weather the last week I’d have been crutching around outside, crawling on the patio so I could pull weeds in the beds. I’m so ready for spring and a little yard work.

Dr's Appointment and a Spa Visit

What a combination!
As I mentioned the other day, I'm determined to do a little something about skincare on my face. My son is getting married this summer and I have decided on a full body makeover.. at least what I can do without much effort :)
I'm eating healthy, trying to lose some  weight, and will start exercising at some point.  However, I have a boo boo foot that needs to be fixed before I can do any serious exercise. I'm not sure I've mentioned the boo boo foot until now, but it does exist. It's been a pain for the last several years. To make a long story short, I saw three different podiatrists in Hawaii, had numerous injections only to be here .. still in pain.
I love the doctor here at the Naval Station Clinic. I told him I had been dealing with this for over four years and he immediately said "It's time for surgery"  Today, I scheduled my surgery. It is tentatively set for 17 March, just after my trip to Texas for JD and Meghan's wedding shower. (and the day after my birthday)
So, I'm feeling good about the foot.
I scheduled a facial for today. Not just any facial.. but a "Rock of Ages" facial. I think that's cool talk for old lady who needs wrinkle help facial. John was the guy who gave me my treatment. Let me just say... John was fabulous!!
I went to SpaVana which is just up the road a bit. I got their information in a welcome packet given to me by the Naval Officers Spouse's Club. I'm so glad I acted on that little brochure.
For 100.00 I received a treatment of a mini peel, Dermabrasion, a Power Serum, half body massage and just over all pampering. (for almost an hour and a half) I absolutely loved it and have scheduled my next visit.
John assures me that after a few visits I will be glowing. He gave me a little packet of night cream for tonight, but approved my normal skin care products for going forward from here. The one piece of advice he gave me on the drier skin was to exfoliate more often and with a GOOD scrub, not a cheapie. He said my Arbonne would work very well.
Ladies, invest in yourselves. Youth doesn't last forever and if you neglect your skin, as I have for many years, you will pay the price.
John said I look good for 45 (almost 46) and he thought I was younger. It earned him a 40.00 tip :)
I'm feeling good tonight and looking forward to the rest of my busy week.
